UMBRA LIGHT FESTIVAL

VITORIA-GASTEIZ

Umbra Light Festival transforms Vitoria-Gasteiz into a stage of light during the darkest nights of the year. This annual festival invites visitors to discover light art through urban installations, digital projections, and innovative visual technology.

Its routes, which pass through the historic city centre and other parts of the city, change with each edition according to the slogan and social context. Organised by the Cultural Association ARGIA 3, the festival benefits from both public and private support, promotes young artists, and collaborates with international festivals and experts.

SUSTAINABILITY

Since its first edition, Umbra Light Festival Vitoria-Gasteiz has been committed to a responsible event model.
In 2022, it signed the ILO Sustainability Manifesto alongside more than 20 other European lighting festivals.

In each edition, we emphasize:

LED TECHNOLOGY

Installations use LED and other energy-efficient sources, minimising energy consumption.

CLEAN ENERGY

No artwork relies on fuel-powered generators. Some installations may be powered by rechargeable batteries or solar energy.

REUSE AND RENTAL

Artworks are reused or exhibited at other festivals. Most of the equipment is rented, encouraging reuse.

RECYCLABLE MATERIALS

All communication materials used are recycled. Paper, cabling, luminaires, and other components can also be recycled or reused.

SHARED LOGISTICS

Artists and suppliers are encouraged to combine resources and reduce transport.

DIGITALISATION

We promote the use of digital documentation: an online map-guide and a downloadable programme.
